Jim McCulloch is the secretary of a local running club, Penarth & Dinas Runners. The running club organises two running events each year, and donates the proceeds to charity.
This year Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan has been chosen as one of the nominated charities.
The first event is on Saturday May 8th, The Porthkerry Plod, held in Porthkerry Country Park in Barry.
On Friday 14th October we held a skittles evening and invited people from the two charities we supported this year, Helen from MIND in the Vale and Paul & Nicola Adamson from the JAM Fund. Both received cheques for £250 and both were delighted with the contributions to their charities. It is great that we are able to make these donations and contribute to the community around us. It is however the work of all the membership who marshal, time keep, put together results and hand out information on our events that make this possible and therefore something that we should all be proud of.

local MP Alan Cairns raises issues in The Houses of Parliament
The following statement was raised in The House of Commons on week commencing 22nd November.
Alun Cairns (Vale of Glamorgan) (Con): The Barry branch of the mental health charity Mind often advocates in favour of service users at work assessment appeals - with a very high success rate. This demonstrates the difficulty in assessing people with mental health illnesses. What action is the Minister taking to ensure that they are treated fairly in the new work capability assessment?
Chris Grayling: My hon. Friend will see tomorrow, with the publication of the Harrington review, some innovative suggestions about how we can deal with that problem. It is a very real problem. I am determined to ensure that we do everything we can to avoid people with mental health problems being wrongly diagnosed by the assessment. I pay tribute to Paul Farmer of Mind, whose input into the process has been hugely valuable
