Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan
Our affiliation with Mind
There are over 20 local Mind associations across Wales working to improve the life of people with mental health problems.
Each of these is a fully independent charity in its own right which has chosen to affiliate to Mind. Hence they are run by local people, for local people.
The main way in which individuals become involved in the work of Mind is through participation in the work of their local Mind association, for example as trustees, staff, volunteers, or fundraisers. Local associations are dependent on local support and so welcome offers of assistance. Mind in the Vale particularly welcomes the involvement of people who themselves have had experience of mental health problems.
Local associations respond to issues within their communities in a range of ways, including:
providing services (such as employment projects, information services and helplines, resource centres, supported housing schemes, rural out-reach work, befriending and community support services)
- involvement in the planning of local mental health services
- local campaigning on mental health related issues, linking with Mind’s national campaign work
- activity aimed to raise awareness of, and change attitudes towards, mental health issues.
Mind Cymru works closely with the local associations in Wales and offers them a range of support and advice.
