Doves Centre - Penarth

 

The Doves Centre is an open access mental health resource centre located in Penarth supporting people with mental health problems.

 

Summary of aims & objectives:

Mind in the Vale's Mental Health Resource Centres aim to provide:

 

  • A social centre with activities shaped by the people who use it

  • Information on a wide range of issues and resources
  • Support for people in developing the skills, experience and confidence they need to find fulfilling occupations
  • Assistance in helping people get the help and support they need from other organisations

Services: 

  • In addition to providing information, advice and support in a friendly setting, the Doves Centre also organises activities, courses and events using a variety of community venues and resources.
  • Good value lunches are provided.
  • A range of courses aimed at creative and vocational development and achieving a sense of well-being.
  • Volunteering opportunities and support to develop the skills, experience and confidence needed to find fulfilling occupations.
  • Outreach service for information, advice and support.
  • Signposting to other agencies and organisations to help you get the support you need.

User Led Group: 

    Doversity

    This user led group manages the users' computer equipment and materials. They meet  monthly. Check centre dor dates.

     Doves Garden Group

     

    This is a group of volunteers that help develop the Doves Garden. If you have an interest in helping create a beautiful garden space at the Doves please ask for details.

    Activities

    • Meditation sessions @ The Doves centre - Tuesdays 10.30am - 12.00
    • Vale Volunteer Bureau Outreach Sessions  -  Thursday 13th May & Thursday 27th May , 2-4pm @ Penarth Library
    • Careers Wales Info sessions - Tuesday 4th May 2010 11am  at Doves Centre.   (1st Tuesday of every month.)

    Courses

    We arrange WEA 30-week accredited Courses cost £6.00 for every 10 weeks. Recent examples have included:

     

    • Computer Courses @ Trinity Church, Woodland Place, Penarth. ( WEA )
    • Creative Writing @ The Kymin, Beach Hill, Penarth, ( WEA )
    • Arts & Craffts every Tuesday, 1-3 pm @ the Doves centre (free)

     

     

    Watch out for new WEA courses in September 2010.

    We are located next to Monty Smith Petrol Station on Windsor Road, near Penarth town centre.

    By Bus:

    Take any bus to Penarth Town Centre and get off at Windsor Terrace

     

    By Train:

    The closest rail station is the Dingle Road station (5 minute walk)

     

    By Car:

    Free 2-hour parking along Windsor Road.

    Lowri Francis and her  Food Hygeine Certificate.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Lowri Francis has been a volunteer for Penarth Mind for 12 months. Lowri cooks and assists with the daily running of the centre. Lowri is always reliable, consistent and has a welcoming approach. Lowri recently, undertook her Food Hygiene training and successfully passed. Well Done Lowri !!!!
