PRESS RELEASE

Story:
Artist Christian John Olsen’s third Travellers Gallery one-man exhibition, called “Making Faces”, is open from 31st May to 7th July, mornings, Mondays to Fridays. In this show, Christian explores two themes: Masks, looking at inherited family characteristics and Pretty Ugly, exploring the impact of the media on body self image. He says, “In my Masks series I cut photographs of my family members faces in half, and then, using half of the photo as a ‘mask’, take a photo of myself.” These startling images explore heredity and variation, sometimes uncannily combining male and female identity into unified characters.
The Travellers Gallery exhibition programme is run in partnership between Mind in the Vale and VOGA (Vale of Glamorgan Artists). The Travellers in Mind Café in Barry’s Broad Street Station is a work experience setting for people recovering from mental health problems. For more information contact Mind in the Vale (Registered Charity no. 1066411) on 01446 730792, or visit www.mindinthevale.org.uk and www.voga.org.uk.
